表示過去的用法

(一)過去式(past tense)

事實發生在過去，已和現在無關，皆可用過去式

• We went  to the gallery to see a display two days ago.
• The fireworks festival was held in Ponghu for three days last month.

句中有表示過去某個時間點(two days ago)或某段固定時間(for three days)的字詞時，動詞就用過去式。

出現表示一段時間的介系詞(for)時並不能馬上用過去完成式，陳述的時間必須持續到現在才能使用過去完成式。

※過去的事實就用過去式，從過去持續到現在的事實才用過去完成式。

(二)過去進行式(past progressive tense)

過去進行式表示在過去的一個時間點之前後，某個事實正持續發生但並未持續到現在。

• Abigale was drinking water when the conflagration occured.
